Bollards
Bollard luminaires are vertically mounted outdoor LED lighting fixtures with heights ranging from 60 to 100 cm, designed to provide soft wayfinding illumination. They are the standard solution for garden pathways, parks and landscape areas, urban plazas, and villa entrances. Instead of using high lighting poles, bollards provide low-level, glare-free illumination close to the ground while guiding pedestrians safely.

What Are Bollard Luminaires?
The term "bollard" refers to a short cylindrical vertical luminaire mounted on a fixed post. Typically installed at heights between 60 and 100 cm above ground level, bollards incorporate LED light sources either at the top or along the side surfaces. They serve multiple functions, including defining pedestrian routes, illuminating steps, and enhancing landscape features.

Applications
- Garden pathways: Soft wayfinding illumination installed at 3-5 metre intervals along pathways
- Urban parks and plazas: Pedestrian safety with anti-vandal IK10-rated models
- Villa entrances and landscapes: 2700K-3000K warm white for an inviting atmosphere
- Car park perimeters: Driver guidance and orientation lighting
- Hotel and restaurant outdoor areas: Decorative and functional lighting combined
- Poolside areas: IP65/IP67-rated luminaires for pathway and safety zone illumination
Types of Bollard Luminaires
Top-Down Illumination
A horizontal diffuser located at the top of the bollard provides wide-beam, soft light distribution. This is the classic park bollard design, delivering uniform illumination to the surrounding area and ground surface.
Side Glow
Features a vertical LED strip integrated into the side surface of the bollard. Creates a modern minimalist appearance with a dramatic lighting effect.

Asymmetric Optics
Directs light in a single direction, typically towards the pathway. This helps prevent light spill into adjacent landscape areas.
Adjustable / Modular
Systems with adjustable optics or modular components that can be added according to project requirements.
Technical Criteria
IP and IK Protection
IP65 is the standard for outdoor applications, while IK08-IK10 impact resistance is critical in public environments. Anti-vandal fasteners and certified stainless steel housings are preferred.
Height Selection
50-70 cm: Basic wayfinding, steps, and low boundary applications 80-100 cm: Standard pedestrian pathways and visual hierarchy 100+ cm: Urban plazas and large open spaces
Colour Temperature
Residential/Villa: 2700K-3000K warm white (inviting atmosphere) Urban/Park: 3000K-4000K (balanced appearance) Industrial/Car Park: 4000K-5000K (security-focused) Wildlife-friendly projects: 2200K amber

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended spacing between bollard luminaires in my garden?
For standard garden pathways, a spacing of 3-5 metres is typically recommended. In urban plazas and larger open areas, spacing can range between 4 and 7 metres. Installing bollards too close together may create visual clutter, while excessive spacing can result in dark zones. The appropriate distance should ultimately be determined according to the light distribution pattern specified in the luminaire's photometric data.
How much more expensive are anti-vandal versions?
Anti-vandal bollards are typically 15-25% more expensive than standard IP65 models. However, in high-traffic public environments such as parks, schools, and urban spaces, they often provide better long-term value by reducing maintenance and vandalism-related repair costs.
Are solar bollards reliable?
Solar-powered bollards with integrated photovoltaic panels are well suited for parks and remote landscape applications. They operate throughout the night using rechargeable lithium batteries. However, for primary pedestrian pathways requiring higher illumination levels, electrically powered bollards are generally preferred. Hybrid solutions are also available, combining solar power with grid backup for operation during extended cloudy periods.
How is RGB colour-changing functionality programmed?
RGB-W bollards are programmed using DMX 512 or DALI-2 protocols. Seasonal lighting scenarios (such as red-green for New Year celebrations or pink tones for Valentine's Day) can be scheduled to operate automatically. They can also be integrated into smart home and building automation systems.
